Baltic short film screening

As part of Patriotic Week, the Ogre History and Art Museum invites you to a special film programme featuring films from Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia, curated by the museum team in collaboration with Lithuanian Shorts and Tallinn University.
The screening will take place on the second floor of the “Path to Freedom” exhibition.

We invite you to look at history from a different perspective. To see that history is shaped by people whose longing for freedom overcomes every obstacle, and whose courage has helped lay the foundations of free nations.

On November 13 at 2:00 PM, we invite teachers and students to a special screening. The screening will take place from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and admission is free for students.

On November 14 at 2:00 PM, everyone is welcome to attend the Baltic short film screening with a museum admission ticket.

Winter, 1942. Beyond the Arctic Circle, on the uninhabited island of Trofimovsk in the Laptev Sea, exiled peoples struggle to survive. This is the place chosen by Soviet authorities to deport vast numbers of inhabitants from the occupied Baltic countries, Finland, Ukraine and elsewhere. In this harsh, alien landscape, man is a mere speck. Against the backdrop of such majestic isolation, many thousands face the savage indifference and cruelty of nature. Always living on the edge, they must find a way to stay alive. All experiences depicted are based on the unfaded memories of those who survived.

In the spring of 1989, in the birthplace of Jonas Basanavičius, the village of Ožkabaliai, the Lithuanian National Revival Oakwood began to be planted. Inspired by the spirit of the Sąjūdis movement and the quest for independence, thousands of people from all over Lithuania, carrying saplings and national tricolors, came to participate in the planting. Today this oakwood stands as a symbol of the Lithuanian nation’s struggle for freedom.

The hike ’44 / Pārgājiens ’44 (LV)

The project is organised in collaboration with the Baltic Film, Media and Arts School, Tritone Studio, and Lithuanian Shorts.
