The exhibition Kārlis Hūns and Others: Paintings from the Museum’s Collection presented works by renowned figures in Latvian cultural life alongside old masters. It also included pieces by unknown authors and works that had not previously been exhibited to the public.

“When planning and selecting works for this exhibition, I wanted to present the most valuable part – what might be called the ‘golden collection’ – of our holdings,” says Dagnija Vegnere, exhibition curator at the Ogre History and Art Museum.

The exhibition featured 32 works from the museum’s collection, including paintings by Kārlis Hūns from Madliena; Vilhelms Purvītis, born in Taurupe; Jānis Kuga, a set designer and painter from Ikšķile municipality; theatre decorator Oskars Norītis; and graphic artist, stamp and banknote designer, and author of the Ogre city coat of arms, Kārlis Krauze, as well as works by many other artists.

The art collection of the Ogre History and Art Museum has been developed since the museum’s founding in 1981 and has been purposefully enriched with paintings and graphic works by local artists. The collection has grown through both donations and acquisitions. Art historian Pēteris Savickis, a native of Ogre, has made a significant contribution to its development
