Didzis Pucis’s collection of radio technology and electronic devices is truly unique, as all items are characterized by something unprecedented and innovative in the context of their time: Latvia’s first television, first radio, printer, Ogre Television’s first transmitter…
The collection covers a very wide period from the 20th century century’s beginning to the end of the century.
Photographs submitted by residents show electrical engineering from earlier times.
Didzis Pučs has been involved with electronics and radio communications for more than half a century. He can repair any device and catch any radio waves. He also knows the value of good sound, how precious it is, and how to obtain it.
He is an indispensable expert and assistant to film directors who want to create an authentic historical environment using period-appropriate technology. Items from the collection can be seen in both the local multi-episode film “Sarkanais mežs” (The Red Forest) and the Hollywood military thriller “Warhunt,” filmed in Latvia, with Mickey Rourke in one of the roles.
Didzis Pučs lives in Lielvārde, where he has his own workshop equipped with all the necessary measuring instruments and tools. He still restores old technology, as it’s often not cost-effective to repair newer items, and he’s proud to show the modern generation how people once watched television, did laundry, listened to music, and what were indispensable helpers in everyday life.
