National Resistance Movement Commemoration Event

On March 21 at 1:00 PM, an event dedicated to the commemoration of the National Resistance Movement will take place in the museum building at Brīvības Street 2, within the ‘Freedom Road’ exhibition.

During the event, a discussion is planned with Latvian Independence Movement participants Jānis Rožkalns and Jānis Vēvers about resistance to the regime in the early 1980s. Both participated in various anti-Soviet actions, and in 1983, the Supreme Court of the Latvian SSR sentenced them to imprisonment.

During the discussion, a handmade flag of the Republic of Latvia, which was hidden by participants of the Latvian Independence Movement in the early 1980s, will be donated to the museum. The event will also commemorate Bruno Javoišs, a participant in the national resistance, and his heroic deed. The story of B. Javoišs can be found in the ‘Freedom Road’ exhibition.

Admission – free.
