Laura Makabresku (real name Kamila Kansy) is an internationally recognized visual artist and storyteller. Born in 1987 in Brzesko, Poland. She studied literature at the Pedagogical University of Krakow. Currently lives and works in the Polish countryside with her husband.

L. Makabresku is a laureate of several significant art photography competitions. Her works have been exhibited in Venice, the USA, Canada, France, Belgium, Poland, and elsewhere, and published in numerous international art magazines.
This is the first time L. Makabresku’s exhibition is on view in the Baltic States.
The artist’s photographs are based on a painterly aesthetic narrative, where, through surrealism and symbolism, there is a detachment from the real world, entering a timeless space.

Each photograph holds its own enigma and a story behind it – as mysterious as the photograph itself. The works are filled with spirituality, biblical and apocryphal references, mythological symbolism, and a unique atmosphere. They evoke strong emotions, leaving no one indifferent. The photographs have no boundaries – they stimulate the imagination and continue to dwell in people’s consciousness.

Close to the symbolism movement, L. Makabresku’s photographs create visual metaphors. Consolation, as the soul’s eternal transcendental direction, is the central theme of the artist’s work, almost a manifesto. The exhibition “Consolation” will reveal the sacred dimension of contemporary art. The artist states that she is inspired by silence, Orthodox icons, and magical realism literature.

Art creation is part of her simple daily life and the artist’s personal experience. The popularity of L. Makabresku’s works reveals the shared nature of this unique experience with fellow human beings and confirms that her works contain “fragments of truth” about our existence on this earth.
