Jānis Ziņģītis is one of Latvia’s most significant and well-known artists who works in the realism genre and has perfected it in landscape painting. The exhibition features the artist’s paintings created over the past three decades. The artist deeply and empathetically reflects on the tranquility of nature, the fragility of its inhabitants, and the absence of a crumbling civilization.

Ziņģītis’s paintings are visual meditative spaces, subtly nuanced, and help the attentive observer experience the continuous movement of nature and spiritual liberation from daily worries.

Jānis Ziņģītis (1973) graduated from Jānis Rozentāls Riga Art High School (1992) and the Painting Department of the Art Academy of Latvia (1998), and studied at the University of Southern Maine in the USA (1994–1995). He has worked as an interpreter, drawing and painting teacher, and school principal.

The exhibition ‘Time of Year’ by Jānis Ziņģītis was on view at the Ogre History and Art Museum from December 8, 2023, to January 21, 2024.
