This is the artist’s tenth solo exhibition and the largest to date, with most of the paintings created in the last four months, making the exhibition particularly special.
The artist’s paintings – whose titles can also be interpreted as witty keys to their messages – feature caricatured figures, stylised landscapes, and animal motifs. The works are characterised by irony and distinctive imagery, evoking associations with Alice and her journey to Wonderland, where the living sometimes appear lifeless, and the lifeless alive, where animals resemble people and people resemble animals.
However, unlike Alice’s tale, this is not a fictional story. It is the world we live in, breathe, think about, and choose – much like the hedgehogs depicted by the artist, who either join hands or extend their quills for defence or attack.
Zane Lūse shared her reflections on the exhibition on LTV1 Cultural News.
