The four artists of the ‘Tuvumā’ (Nearby) exhibition are united by the strongest bonds, reflecting on humanity across time and space – a shared belonging to one family, like a single tree whose trunk bears the marks of annual rings, growing lush with new branches and ever-renewing greenery. Its seeds scatter in the wind, take root in the dark earth, and new shoots sprout. This is evident in the sculptures, textile works, photographs, and paintings.

Vija Ilze Dzintare — Sculptor, or a Painter in Stone

The artist focuses on themes that are particularly significant to her – as a human, a woman, and a Latvian. Observing her works, one of the most essential themes that defines the core of her message is evident: woman as the giver, sustainer, and guardian of life. It also reflects a conviction that every individual is a unique value, an inseparable link in the journey of humanity.

Vija Dzintare works in monumental and easel sculpture, creating portraits, small forms, and medals. Her chosen materials are substantial and enduring – bronze, granite, marble, and aluminum. Her works speak with a gentle and soulful artistic expression, characteristic only of a loving mother and a warm-hearted grandmother.

In the creative expressions of the ‘Tuvumā’ exhibition, a common desire is discernible to convey, through various means, the quintessence of the cosmic and the human – time, space, and people within them. The works, though each distinct, intertwine into a single whole, as everything is naturally interconnected and interdependent.
