The “Path of Freedom” exhibition is located in Ogre, at Brīvības Street 2.
It tells the story of the struggle for freedom by the people of Latvia and Ogre Municipality, and the independence of the Republic of Latvia.
The exhibition provides an understanding of the continuity of the Road to Freedom, the heroism shown by the residents of Latvia and Ogre region, and the sacrifices made in the name of Freedom. The exhibition highlights important events in Latvia’s struggle for independence and features significant personalities from the Ogre region—participants in historical events. The exhibition conveys the understanding that the freedom and independence of the Republic of Latvia are fundamental values. Values that also determine the freedom and independence of each individual. The understanding that state independence was historically won with great sacrifices, and that the freedom and independence of the state must be protected as a great treasure.
Visitors are invited to embark on the Road to Freedom from the beginning of the 20th century, when the idea of Latvia’s independence emerged, passing along the trenches of the Latvian Riflemen and the War of Independence, ultimately reaching their own state. The exhibition emphasizes that the struggle for one’s country and independence continued throughout the long years of occupation, concluding in 1990–1991. Finally—reflections on preserving the state.
In the new building of the Ogre History and Art Museum at Brīvības Street 2, on the third floor, it is possible to experience, accompanied by a museum specialist, the tour “Us or Them”. It takes place in a specially designed room that allows visitors to emotionally connect with Russia’s brutal aggression in Ukraine. The room displays authentic military artifacts and materials from Ukraine, deposited by the Chernihiv charity fund DOBRODIYA. Tours are held on weekdays (except Tuesdays) only with a guide—a military specialist.
