The exhibition “Kārlis Hūns and others. Paintings from the museum’s collection” featured works by both renowned artists in Latvian cultural life and old masters of painting. Alongside them were pieces by unknown authors, as well as works not previously exhibited for public viewing.

“When planning and selecting works for this exhibition, I wanted to showcase the most valuable, what could be called the ‘golden fund,’ of our collection,” says Dagnija Vegnere, exhibition curator at the Ogre History and Art Museum.

The exhibition featured 32 works from the Ogre History and Art Museum’s collection: by Kārlis Hūns from Madliena, Vilhelms Purvītis, born in Taurupe, Jānis Kuga, a set designer and painter from Ikšķile municipality, theatre decorator Oskars Norītis, and graphic artist, stamp and banknote designer, and author of the Ogre city coat of arms, Kārlis Krauze, as well as works by many other artists.

The art collection of the Ogre History and Art Museum has been developed since the museum’s inception in 1981 and has been purposefully supplemented with paintings and graphics by local artists. Works have entered the museum both as donations and as purchases. Art historian Pēteris Savickis, a native of Ogre, has made a significant contribution to compiling the art collection.
